Driving while high is a serious crime. It carries the same weight and penalties as driving under the influence of alcohol.

PEI laws for impaired driving are consistent across all substances:

  • Drivers can face immediate roadside penalties, license suspensions, and criminal charges.
  • It is illegal to drive while impaired even if you have a medical prescription.
  • Combining alcohol and cannabis is particularly dangerous, as the effects can be more potent than using either alone.

  • Renters: If you are renting an apartment, house, or campground space, check your lease or with staff first.
  • Multi-unit Dwellings: Owners may designate an outdoor smoking/vaping area. This space must be at least 15 feet away from building entrances or air intakes.
